About the TandemHealth™ app (Beta version)

Note: This TandemHealth™ application is for informational use only and is not intended to provide medical or other advice. It is not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always seek the advice of a qualified health care provider about any medical condition. Never disregard, avoid or delay in obtaining medical advice from your doctor or other qualified health care provider because of something you read in this application. Use of this application is at your own risk. None of Consumer Reports, the National Physicians Alliance, their affiliates or their respective licensors, distributors, directors, officers, employees or agents are liable for any loss, injury or other damages related to your use of this application.

What is it?

This application is currently in beta and is being user-tested. It was created in partnership by the National Physicians Alliance and Consumer Reports. Our aim with this application is to create a tool that consumers and healthcare providers can use together to aid in shared-decision making. We offer independent, trusted data regarding treatment options for most common medical needs. Importantly, we accept no funding from industry.

This application is intended for use before, during, and after a clinical encounter, for consumers and clinicians alike, with clear, evidence-based approaches for the most common medical conditions. You can choose to view the consumer or provider point of view throughout the tool. Our project name comes from an intentional focus on the mutual patient-provider experience.

The National Physicians Alliance – with core values of service, integrity, and advocacy – and Consumer Reports, whose mission is to work for a fair, just, and safe marketplace for all consumers and to empower consumers to protect themselves, have built this app on the strength of Consumer Reports’ Best Buy Drugs evaluations along with additional collaborators, including academics, pharmacists, nurse practitioners, and practicing physicians.

Who are we?

The National Physicians Alliance creates research and education programs that promote health and foster active engagement of physicians with their communities to achieve high quality, affordable health care for all. The NPA offers a professional home to physicians across medical specialties who share a commitment to professional integrity and health justice.

Consumer Reports™ supports consumers in identifying and choosing high-quality, high-value, products and services, and optimizing their health and wellness. They advocate for public policies and marketplace changes that allow and promote fair, just, and high-value health systems. Consumer Reports Best Buy Drugs™ is a public-education project administered by Consumer Reports. The project is dedicated to providing consumers with unbiased information about the safety, comparative effectiveness, and cost of drugs.

Ringful Health provided the development services and software needed in order to build this application. Ringful Health is a software and algorithm developer who aims to improve clinical decision support for both medical professionals and patients through the tools they develop.

We would also like to thank Jason Dilworth, Anne Leue, and colleagues for their design expertise and contributions.

This application is produced by Consumer Reports and Consumer Reports Best Buy Drugs, a public information project supported by grants from the state Attorney General Consumer and Prescriber Education Grant Program, which is funded by the multi-state settlement of consumer fraud claims regarding the marketing of the prescription drug Neurontin.
